Waterton in June

Well we had an experience most people won't ever have.  We drove with 7 kids, 12 hours, to get to the Canadian Rockies in June.  Waterton in June is:  cold, windy, not busy, beautiful, full of animals, rainy, and gorgeous.

  The ride there is just as one might imagine it could be with 9 people crammed into one stuffed full car.  Within 2 hours of leaving, Josh had gum in his hair courtesy of Tatym, and Tim had already consumed 2 rock stars.  We made the trip in decent fashion and the border patrol barely batted an eye at all our documents.  Phew.

  Once in Waterton, the kids spent most of their time patrolling the candy shops and souvenir stores.  They could probably have told you what everything cost at every store.  We actually had one day that was completely wind free, sunny, and gorgeous.  The boys used it to golf, and I took the older girls up bear's hump that day.  It was so nice.

  Tim and I did manage to get in a few bike rides, see some bears, mountain goats, a moose, and lots of deer.  We drove up to Cameron Lake one day, and it was completely snow packed still, the docks were not even in the water.

   We did take the kids on a short hike in the misty rain one day to Blakiston Falls up by red rock.  It was great, and the falls were beautiful.  We just missed a bear crossing our path, literally.  As we were getting near the cars, we heard all the hikers behind us yelling and they came running up the path from the bear!  Darn.

  The trip home seemed twice as long...could have been the exhaustion, but we made it in one piece and everyone had a good time.
