At least that is what we keep telling Josh. So on Halloween, when Josh was Jacob, Tim noticed a lump on Josh's chest. It looked suspicious. We had our friend, Dr. Cole, a surgical pathologist take a look at it. He thought it was probably nodular fasciitis, a benign cyst usually caused by an injury. However, it needed to be removed, just to be sure. So 3 weeks ago, Tim took Josh into the dermatologist to have it removed. They numbed him up and cut, thinking it would be just under the skin...wrong! It was under the chest muscle attached to his rib head, millimeters away from the lungs. Anyhow, what was supposed to be a quick 20 minute surgery turned into 1 1/2 hours, and Josh was awake for the entire thing. It was gnarly, and Josh was super tough, while the Doctor dug away at his chest. He had to get stitches through about 4 layers, and it was definitely a little stressful for everyone, including the Doctor, who wasn't anticipating such an ordeal. Tim managed to take a few photos and video. Anyhow, the lump was removed, and then examined by our friend, the pathologist, who then sent the samples to the Mayo clinic, because it was presenting a little different than what they normally see. After a nail biter week, we got word, that all was well, and it was indeed nodular fasciitis. That was all I wanted for Christmas this year. And Josh, well, another scar to add to his collection.
